Does your dog tremble at the word “bath”? Grooming anxiety is one of the most common things dog parents ask us about — and the good news is it almost always improves with the right approach.
Before the appointment
Practice handling at home. Gently touch your dog’s paws, ears, and tail during calm moments, and reward them. Most grooming stress comes from unfamiliar handling.
Exercise first. A good walk before the appointment burns off nervous energy.
Stay relaxed yourself. Dogs read our energy — a calm, matter-of-fact drop-off works better than a long, emotional goodbye.
What a good groomer does differently
A patient groomer works at the dog’s pace: frequent breaks, positive reinforcement, and never forcing a frightened dog through a step. Quiet environments help enormously — which is one of the biggest advantages of a home-based studio like ours. There’s no barking lobby, no cage dryers, and no strangers coming and going. It’s just your dog and a groomer who has time to let them settle.
If your dog has had a bad grooming experience before, tell us. We’ll take it slow, and we’re happy to do a short meet-and-greet first so the studio feels familiar.
